WIKIRUN
Navigate from Origin to Target using only internal Wikipedia links. Clock only starts once the origin article is rendered!
WHAT IS WIKIRUN?
WikiRun is a client-side hypertext speedrunning game inspired by the classic "Six Degrees of Wikipedia". Your objective is simple yet mentally demanding: race from an Origin Article [A] to a Target Article [B] using exclusively the internal blue hypertext links embedded within each article.
1. Six Degrees of Wikipedia
Virtually every concept in human knowledge is linked within an average of 3 to 6 hops. Master speedrunners navigate by finding conceptual bridges: pivoting through countries, historical eras, scientific fields, or international organizations.
2. Zero-Latency REST Engine
Runs 100% in your browser using the official Wikipedia REST API with hover prefetching. Articles render instantly inside an isolated sandbox with zero ads, tracking scripts, or visual clutter.
3. Anti-Cheat Protocol
No Ctrl+F shortcuts allowed! Built-in heuristic listeners intercept in-page search attempts (Ctrl+F, Cmd+F, F3), sounding a diagnostic buzzer and serving hacker insults. Your eyes and memory do the hunting.
4. Fair Timing Architecture
Unlike naive timer implementations, the stopwatch only begins after the origin article has fully parsed and painted in the DOM. Network fetch latency is automatically subtracted so connection speeds never penalize your run.
- Forward Traversal Only: Click internal links inside the article text. External references, edit markers, and Wikipedia navigation templates are stripped for speed.
- Target Radar: When the Destination page's link appears anywhere on your current article, the HUD displays a pulsing target badge so you can make your final dash.
- Telemetry & Sharing: Reaching Target [B] stops the clock, tracks your total clicks and unique article path, and generates a clean, shareable run score.
